You should start a mentorship group of single women that thinks like this. Then I’ll be able to take ladies out on first dates and not feel obligated to spend $60+. Do women understand how expensive dating is for a guy? I’ve spent a few hundred dollars in the past few months!!

I think it can be a nice day, but I don’t like the pressure to spend. Plus, there are some poor guys out there who are always being compared to other husbands, boyfriends, etc. Yikes!

I don’t hate it. I have a little girl and so she is my sweetheart and its just one more excuse to make something fun and special. I do spend a few bucks here and there, but what the heck. I don’t hate it.

It’s so contrived it’s silly. We shouldn’t need a holiday to show our appreciation of those we love. It’s good people watching though, if you choose to brave the restos and bars. Might even be better than people watching at the airport.

Uhh ditto to the maid. I don’t tend to fall into the flowers, candy, and cards thing for VDay, but I do enjoy the fact that love is in the air… we’re celebrating right now, this weekend, by NOT having plans and just hanging out. Which of course, means I am wandering through other mommy blogs… romantic!

We usually see a romantic comedy and then I make dinner. That’s the extent of things in our household and how I prefer it to big displays and big expenses.

And even a movie and me cooking isn’t that special, since we see at least a dozen movies per year and I cook almost every night!

I don’t hate Valentine’s day, but we don’t really “celebrate” it the way retailers would want us to. A card with a handwritten message is all I’d want (if anything). Anything about and beyond that is nice, but not any nicer then if I received it on Feb 15 or May 1st.

We avoid celebrating many holidays and those we do, we celebrate in a low key way. Surprisingly though, Valentines Day has remained on our radar. After many trials in recent years we find ourselves grateful for any reason to celebrate our good fortune in still having, and liking, each other. So, yes, we celebrate Valentines. Not with Hallmark cards or flowers, but with small gestures throughout the day that we might not otherwise make but which we know the other will appreciate.
