This sounds about right. I myself a 27 year old college student am about 8,00 in debt and have about 2 more semesters to go. I have nothing in my savings account.

I'm also about 13,000 in credit card debt. I am slowly but surely getting everything paid down as I have stopped using my CC's.

I am starting to make a bit more money these days which helps with having to use those cc's and allows me to pay more money down on them. I can't wait to be free of debt.

I only have about 2 years left on my car which will free up 333.00 every month.

Which further signifies a backwards societal norm that it is somehow acceptable for young people to start out buried in a very deep hole.

I agree that little to no savings is sad, but the truth is- none of your friends have that much debt. They appear to be topped out at $10k, which is pretty much nothing compared to M's $60k, and it's certainly not the level of debt the cartoon is referring to. There are 20 somethings out there in $40k/yr jobs with over $100k in student loans.

Yeah, I am constantly cringing at some of my acquaintances money decisions. Of course, I only really feel bad when it is someone I know well. All I can do is offer advice and knowledge and see what happens…
